Here are some things we will be doing this week: Math: We will continue to work on fact families. We have two assessments this week because we will be finishing our chapter AND unit 2! Thank you to those who did the optional homework packet, it was great to see them get that extra practice! Reading: We are in the last week of unit 2! Below, I have uploaded the Unit 10 home practice. Exploration: We will be wrapping up our current exploration into diversity, looking at other countries and their winter holidays. In December, a new exploration will start! Online Homework: Thank you to those who responded to my online survey! It was very helpful. There are two programs in particular that I would like the students to start working on at home, if possible. I will get some information home this week on what they are and how to log in. Thank you! Ms. Carroll

Hello parents and guardians! This week, we return to normal. Math: We are learning some different methods of how to add. Students will be able to practice whichever method makes the most sense to them until they become fluent and obtain correct answers. Eventually, we hope to have addition facts memorized, but this is a good first step! Reading: We have a new unit. See the attached note that I sent home yesterday (Nov. 6th) to see what we are learning there! Exploration: We are beginning our Diversity unit. We will learn about diversity within our classroom, within Montana/the United States, and then we will learn about World Diversity by looking at holidays around the world! Students will receive passports that they can get stamped when we learn about each country (that will likely start next week). Have a great week! Ms. Carroll Update 8:14am: I have added a different link at the bottom of "Helpful Links" for those who the link didn't work for. It should work. It looks like:
Is the link on the picture not working? Click here. 1. Click on "Decodable Readers" 2. Click on "Unit 2" 3. Choose your story. I will continue to troubleshoot and find a simpler way to access them. Thank you! Ms. Carroll Original Message: It has come to my attention that the website link for our Decodable Readers is not working for everyone, claiming that some don't have access to them. I will try to troubleshoot this and give you a new link as soon as possible. Thank you! Ms. Carroll Welcome back after the long weekend! This week, we are back to a normal schedule. Here's some things we are going to work on... Reading: We are going to read a few stories about wolves. We are going to add six sight words, and this week, we have eight spelling words. We will talk about how to classify and categorize words, and continue working on what a full sentence looks like. Math: On Monday, we will assess what students have learned about Subtraction. The rest of the week, we will begin working on how we can display information (tally marks, pictographs, bar graphs) and will even be able to connect this to our organisms unit by talking about colors of leaves! Exploration: This week will be our last full week studying organisms! This week, we will look at leaves, bats, and germs, and talk about how different kinds of organisms sense things in the world around them. Below (if it will load), I will attach the handout I will send home Monday with this weeks sounds and important words. Friday! This Friday is the Fall Carnival. It will start at 6pm, and will be a lot of fun! Have a great week! Ms. Carroll A Few Notes About This Week! Hello, parents and guardians! Welcome to a new week! Here are a few things that will be happening this week at school:
Ms. Carroll P.S. For more information about the "Great Montana Shake Out", please download the below file. I have also attached a PDF copy of the note above, though the document loader doesn't seem to be working.
Hello Parents and Students! This week, we have some exciting stuff planned. I have attached a copy of our Lesson Five words to know, which covers a lot of what we are working on during Reading. In Math, we are learning about subtraction. Students are learning how to use a write a subtraction sentence and show what is happening visually. We are also learning how to talk (or "teach your dragon") how to subtract. Our current Exploration is Organisms! This week's focus is on plants, and more specifically apples and apple trees. On Thursday, we will make applesauce! Students will get to experience the process of making applesauce and get to guess what they think will happen. Then, at the end of the day, we will get to sample different kinds of apples and make a graph about their favorites. ON FRIDAY, there will be a field trip! During this field trip, students will be going to Traveler's Rest in the morning, and learning about history. There, we will eat lunch. In the afternoon, we will go to Fort Missoula to participate in apple days. It should be a great day! Thank you for your patience, I hope to update this on Mondays from now on. Ms. Carroll |
